Appleby Castle has been held by the Kings of England and Scotland and boasts one of the few remaining intact Norman keep. The keep has re-opened as The Norman Centre a museum dedicated to Norman history. In the 17th Century, the Castle was the preferred residence of Lady Anne Clifford. Lady Anne was a patron of authors and literature; and known for her many letters and diaries.

Appleby-in-Westmorland is the gateway to the Eden Valley. The Castle’s luxurious accommodation includes 12 stylish bedrooms and 3 self-contained cottages so you can come stay and relax in the home of Lady Anne.

The Castle is the perfect location for stylish weddings. Celebrate your wedding reception in style after a ceremony in the Great Hall, which was built in 1454.

The Castle is also available for private celebrations, business conferences, filming and sporting events.

During the summer months, the Castle holds a variety of special events including open-air theatre and battle re-enactments.

History Tours of the Castle are held daily throughout the summer months but advance booking is essential.

Stay at Appleby Castle and enjoy a four poster bed in the style of the gentry with full use of the Castle’s facilities; the great hall, games room and enjoy a tour of this historic building.

Alternatively stay in one of our self contained holiday cottages. Set in the Inner Bailey, these provide the perfect retreat from a days walking, golf, fishing and shooting.

Smoking
Appleby Castle is grade one listed. There is strictly no smoking allowed in the cottages or the castle whatsoever. The penalty for smoking is £500.

FOOD IN ROOMS
Appleby Castle does NOT allow any food or takeaways in the rooms of the Castle. If guests are found to bring food into their rooms from outside they shall be subject to a fine of up to £500 to cover expenses. This shall be applied at the discretion of the management. This does not apply to self catering cottages.

Liability for payment
The guests acknowledge joint and several liability for all services rendered until full settlement of bills

Damage to Property
Guests will be held responsible for any loss or damage to Appleby Castle caused by themselves, their friends or any person whom they are responsible

Responsibility for belongings
Hotel Management is not responsible for your personal belongings and valuables such as money, jewellery or any valuables left by guests in their rooms

Guest liability
Regardless of charge instructions, I acknowledge that I am personally liable for the payment of all charges incurred by me during my stay at Appleby Castle

Payment Policy

Credit Card
In order to check in to the hotel or cottages or guests must provide their credit, debit or charge card.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellation Policy
All Cancellations made within 30 days of the arrival date shall be charged 50% of the value of the room. All cancellations made within seven days of the arrival date shall be charged 100% of the booking fee.
