Highwood Retreat
Welcome to Highwood Retreat. The ultimate private escape waits for you in the foothills of the Green Mountains. Our thoughtfully designed canvas lodge blends the luxury of an exquisite hotel with the ruggedness and adventure of sleeping under canvas. An unforgettable experience worthy of the most romantic of occasions, every detail at Highwood Retreat has been curated to surprise and delight our guests.
The Luxury Part:
You will never want to leave this bed. It has been outfitted with Brooklinen's Luxe Sateen Sheets, an over-stuffed down comforter, layers of soft quilts, and an electric mattress heater that will keep you cozy on even the chilliest nights. We also provide two hot water bottles for snuggling that will warm you to your core.
Solar panels provide electricity and outlets are situated throughout for all your charging needs. An electric kettle and a pour-over coffee maker means your morning coffee ritual will be a breeze and we are proud to stock freshly ground beans from local coffee roasters. Your cooler will be full of fresh ice and plush spa robes hang in the closet for glamour and fabulousness.
The Rugged Adventure Part:
Please note that the lodge does not have running water. The bathroom consists of a composting toilet and an off-grid sink (although no sacrifices to style or cleanliness have been made). Guests will have access to 5 gallons of drinking water upon arrival and we are more than happy to refill as needed.
The wood burning stove will be your main heat source and it does an excellent job at keeping the lodge toasty. We provide firewood and natural fire starters for ease of use along with detailed instructions. With the right air-flow settings your fire can burn up to eight hours through the night.
Highwood Retreat is a 90 acre property with woodland trails, wetlands, tunnels of trees, antique rock walls, and meandering paths. Guests have full access and are encouraged to explore. In addition to the private fire pit at the lodge, guests are welcome to enjoy the large, communal fire pit located on the grounds. We live in a quintessential Vermont farmhouse at the entrance of the property and are available to assist guests at any time.
