India House Hostel has been the place to stay for backpackers in New Orleans for over 25 years, and still is. Nestled in the heart of Mid-City, India House is a quick and easy streetcar ride away from the French Quarter, New Orleans City Park and a whole host of cemeteries. With easy access to the Fairgrounds and City Park, we're a great place to stay to enjoy Jazz Fest and Voodoo Fest. Come enjoy all the raucous joy of Mardi Gras from the sidelines of Endymion, the biggest of the super krewes, as it rolls down Canal Street and right past our door.

India House is an oasis from the constant hustle and noise of downtown, so you can take a break and enjoy our common rooms and courtyard where you can meet fellow travelers. Soak up the rays and beat the summer heat in our swimming pool. Buy low-cost breakfast and dinner, or use our fully-equipped kitchen to cook your own specialties.

Our friendly front-desk staff is available 24 hours a day to help you plan your sightseeing trip in the French Quarter, Garden District and other areas of interest. They'll gladly recommend restaurants, music venues, museums and historical sites based on your interests. They can also help you with booking swamp, city and plantation tours that pick up and drop off right at our front door.

When you need a break from the grind of sightseeing, we have plenty of amenities to keep you relaxed and ready for your travels. We have free wi-fi, big-screen TVs in our common room, laundry machines, vending machines and air conditioning in all our rooms. Explore Mid-City's excellent restaurants and neighborhood bars to get a feel for what it's like to live in the Crescent City instead of just visiting. Grocery stores and international markets are just minutes away by foot for all your needs.

Terms & Conditions

A valid government-issued out-of-state (non-Louisiana) photo ID or passport is required in order to check in. Guests checking into dormitory room will need to show their valid out-of-state student ID or foreign passport.
There is a maximum stay of 14 nights in any 30-day period and 30 nights in any 365-day period.
Beds and rooms are allocated on the arrival day. We will do our best to accommodate you, but cannot guarantee that groups of two or more people will be in the same room.
We do not allow pets of any kind on the premises; service dogs are always welcome.
Children under the age of 18 cannot stay or visit at India House.
Guests who smoke anywhere indoors, including rooms and common areas will be charged a $250 cleaning fee.

Payment Policy

Payment in full is required at check-in. India House accepts Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover. The physical card must be presented for payment and must belong to the person paying (no third-party cards or payments over the phone). We also accept, cash, traveler's checks, Venmo and CashApp. The minimum amount for credit or debit payments is $40.00.

Reservations for 8 or more dorm beds, or 3 or more private rooms, will be charged a 30% non-refundable deposit after booking.

Cancellation Policy

Please provide at least 72 hours notice for any cancellations. Late cancellations, late changes and no-shows may be charged the equivalent of the first night's accommodation.

Deposits for large bookings - 8 or more dorm beds, or 3 or more private rooms - are non-refundable.
