Terms & Conditions
CHECK IN: 4:00 pm
(If you are arriving after our closing time of 6 pm, please check your email for self check in instructions sent to you prior to the standard check in time of 4 pm on the day of your arrival. Please note cell phone and wifi reception are not always reliable at our center so these instructions should be viewed and saved before arrival or before departing the town of Pahoa.)
CHECK OUT: 11:00 am
(Keys should be returned to their lock box and guests should check out with our Hale Aloha team directly. Due to same day departures and arrivals, we are usually unable to offer late check outs. For check outs outside the hours of 8:00 am - 6:00 pm, please message our team at guestservices@kalani.com. Failure to check out by 11:30 am will result in a late check out charge of $100. Failure to check out by 3:00 pm or later will result in a charge of another night’s stay.)
ACCOMMODATIONS & HOUSEKEEPING
Our accommodations are rustic and simple, “jungle-chic” as we like to say! Rooms are not equipped with air conditioning, as we benefit from consistent east-to-west Pacific trade winds. We offer retreat style housekeeping, meaning we do not typically service rooms during your stay. If you require extra towels, linens or drinking water you may request them at Hale Aloha.
MASSAGE & WELLNESS
Make time for self care during your stay in paradise! We have a small group of talented therapists who offer a variety of massage modalities. Please reserve your appointment at Hale Aloha or by contacting wellnesscenter@kalani.com with at least 24 - 48 hours notice.
TRANSPORTATION
Renting a car is highly recommended to explore the gems in our rural area and accessing restaurants and shops in nearby towns. A gate code will be provided at check in, so for safety please do not share this code with anyone.
HALE ALOHA
DAILY: 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
Enjoy drinks, coffee, ice cream, snacks and local crafts at our shop! This also serves as our Front Desk for guest check in.
FOOD
At this time, we do not offer meal service on site apart from catered retreat meal plans. Snacks, coffee, ice cream and local crafts are available for purchase at Hale Aloha during open hours. The closest food options are Uncle Roberts up the street and a variety of restaurants and grocery stores in Pahoa town about 20 minutes away. Please keep all food items in the mini refrigerator in your building or other airtight containers to avoid fire ants and other jungle critters.
SWIMMING POOL & HOT TUB
The pool area is topless optional for both men and women, and clothing optional after 6pm. Children under the age of 16 must have a guardian present at all times. Children under the age of 12 are not permitted at the sauna or hot tub. Children under the age of 4 are required to wear swim diapers. No lifeguard is on duty; pool use is at your own risk. Please shower before entering the pool/hot tub as we use limited chemicals. No glass at the pool please.
CONNECTIVITY
Complimentary WiFi is available in guest rooms, at the community library, and at Hale Aloha. Our internet connection is sometimes inconsistent, given our jungle environment and mobile phone reception is also variable. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature rather than the virtual world.
DRINKING WATER
Filtered water stations are set up in your room, common spaces across campus, and at Hale Aloha. We do not sell plastic water bottles and encourage guests to bring reusable water bottles. Tap water is from our well and tastes brackish. It is best for brushing your teeth and showering, not for drinking.
GUESTS
No unregistered guests are allowed on property. Please register guests at Hale Aloha during open hours. All patrons not staying on property are to leave by 5pm. Inquire with guestservices@kalani.com about additional fees for daytime or overnight guests.
CLASSES
Community classes such as yoga, dance, and arts classes are available during your stay. Our weekly class schedule is provided upon check in and on the Calendar page of our website (www.kalani.com/calendar). Some classes are offered for free or on a donation basis, while others have an additional fee. Please inquire with our team if you have any questions about the class schedule.
WILDLIFE
Plan on seeing lots of small, harmless animals like geckos, spiders and mongoose on our grounds. You may also encounter wild pigs on site. They are usually frightened by human presence, but we ask guests to please not approach or feed the pigs.
GUEST QUIET HOURS
DAILY: 10:00 pm - 8:00 am. Please be mindful of noise for a peaceful environment for all.
SPECIAL EVENTS
Kalani regularly hosts special events. Some events may require guests to purchase an event ticket to gain access to areas of Kalani campus including the pool area or main lawn. Please inquire with our team if there are any special events planned during your intended stay.
SAFETY & SECURITY
In an emergency dial 911. Note the location of the fire extinguisher in your room. First Aid kits are located at Hale Aloha. Smoking is only allowed at designated areas. Be safe after dark by staying on the walking paths, using flashlights, and wearing shoes. Do not eat fruit picked from trees or the ground without thoroughly washing. Angiostrongylus cantonensis (rat lungworm infection) is prevalent on Hawaii Island and eating unwashed produce can cause serious illness.
Payment Policy
Payment is required in full to secure your reservation.
